Chelating Resins

For brine decalcification and Metal recovery, Tulsion® Chelating Resins are used. These are weak acid cation exchangers consisting of iminodiacetate, aminomethyl and phosphonic functional groups in Sodium form. These resins have optimum porosity and surface area that give excellent operating capacities.

Depending upon the affinity for various ions these resins form chelates resulting in the removal of one cation in preference to the other.

Tulsion® Chelating Resins differ from a normal cation resin in that the metal ions form complexes with chelating resins resulting in selective removal of cations. E.g. Removal of Calcium in presence of large quantities of Sodium salt.

Brine Decalicification Chlor-alkali process based on membranes has very stringent limits on acceptable amount of alkaline earth metals in brine. Permissible limits are in parts per billion range. Tulsion® Chelatin Resins are used to reduce these to acceptable levels in brine solution.

Removal of Mercury: Mercury present in ionic form, can be removed from waste water of mercury cell chlor-alkali electrolysis plants with Tulsion® Chelating containing thiourea groups. In waste water, mercury is also present in metallic form which is converted into ionic form by Chlorination before treating it with Chelating Resins.
